Fixed Bridges

A missing tooth can be a severe problem for anyone. The teeth are designed to work together, and if one goes missing, then the adjoining teeth can suffer more than what you can imagine. You would notice that the teeth in your opposite jaw might get shifted into space, which not only looks aesthetically unpleasing but also can be very irritating. The missing tooth would also affect your bite, which would stress out your jawbones and joints and result in pain and damage.

A fixed bridge means that your dentist would use the natural teeth available on both sides of the gap (missing tooth/teeth) to hold the bridge in place. You might have to make 2 or 3 visits to your dentist to complete the procedure.

How does the procedure occur?

Your dentist would complete the procedure by following the given steps:

  • On the 1st visit, Dentist prepares the teeth on both sides of the gap so that the bridge can properly be attached to them. He would also take an image of the gap so that they can make a customized bridge that would fit your dental gap exactly.
  • Your dentist would also put in a temporary bridge so as to protect the adjacent teeth that are important for the permanent bridge.
  • Once the permanent bridge is ready, then your dentist would fix the same to the gap.

There might be several other steps involved in the process depending on your oral condition.

During your regular dental check-up, your dentist would be able to decide if you need a filling or not. They would do some close examinations followed by dental X-ray if required. The need for fillings and the material would depend on the extent of decay in your teeth.

Post-procedure care

You should follow your regular oral hygiene routine to take care of your dental conditions as well as the bridges. Notice the bridge area and clean it properly with care. You should also visit your dentist regularly to check if everything is working fine.

There are other methods as well to fix your dental problems like combining crowns with partial dentures. This would keep the retaining clips out of sight. You would be able to use the fixed bridge if your dental structure is stable with enough support from the adjacent bones. Your dentists are the best people to decide which treatment you should undergo.
