Gum Grafting

Gum Graft is basically used to correct the effects of gum recession. This is a simple surgery wherein periodontists remove gum tissues from the roof of the mouth and use it to rebuild the receded gum. Recession of gums basically occurs when the gum tissues wear out and that results in more tooth and root exposure.

Preparation

Your periodontist would check the conditions of your gums in order to understand whether gum grafting is suitable for you or not. Post that, you would not have much to do. But be sure to take a family member or friend with you on the day of surgery. This would be important as post the surgery you would be given pain medications and it would make it hard for you to drive after that.

The benefits of surgery

Following are some of the benefits that your oral health would have if you undergo this surgery:

  • It would not only strengthen but would also stabilize the gum
  • It would protect the tooth against recession
  • It would decrease the sensitivity of teeth
  • It also helps in restoring the smile
