Single-tooth implant

Single-tooth implants can be used in people who are missing one or more teeth. An implant is surgically placed by your dentist. After the implant integrates (attaches) to your bone, it acts as a new “root” for the crown that will replace your missing tooth. A crown (cap), which is made to look like a natural tooth, is attached to the implant and fills the space left in the mouth by the missing tooth.

Nothing replaces your natural teeth, but dental implants can come close. Implants have been used for many years. They are artificial “anchors” that look like screws and are made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. The single-tooth implant is placed by surgery in the upper or lower jaw, where it replaces your missing tooth’s root(s).

A single tooth implant does not involve treatment for your other teeth. Plus, it may also help you keep the right level of bone around your teeth. If you are looking for a cosmetic dentist that focuses in tooth implant or surgical treatments, contact Best Choice Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.

Advantages of Tooth Implants

There are several advantages of Single-tooth implant over a bridge:

  • It looks like the natural teeth
  • It does not sacrifice the health and condition of the neighboring teeth
  • The dental implant replaces the root of the tooth and hence the bone is preserved better. It basically integrates with the jawbone to keep it healthier and better.
  • It is easier to clean and maintain implants

Potential risks and complications

The potential risks and complications vary from one person to another, depending on their oral conditions. If you have any prior medical difficulties, then you should discuss that with your doctor before he begins the treatment. If you have any bleeding disorders, infections, allergies, etc. be sure to discuss them with your dentist before the procedure.

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia, and hence, you would not experience any pain during the procedure. However, afterward, one might feel a bit of discomfort. This can be corrected by placing an ice pack over the affected area that would reduce swelling as well.

Post Treatment Care

Immediate care should be taken after the operation of the dental implants. You should follow the regular hygiene routine along with limiting food to the ones with a softer consistency. You might initially experience bleeding and swelling, which can be prevented by placing a gauze and cold pack against the wound, respectively. You would also be given pain killers in case you experience pain during the recovery period. Maintain regular oral hygiene throughout, and also do not forget your antibiotics.
