Fillings
When your tooth gets decayed, generally, the dentists remove the decayed part and fill the concerned area up with fillings. Untreated decay can likewise lead to periodontal disease, which is a genuine oral medical issue that can undermine your general prosperity. The fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth along with teeth that have been worn down. Different researches show an association between chronic oral contaminations and general medical problems like heart and respiratory disease, diabetes, and stroke. Dental fillings are one of the more typical systems performed. Cavities occur, and when they do, they should be treated as quickly as time permits to keep decay from spreading, harming your tooth, and causing uneasiness.
Choosing the right filling
There are different types of materials that can be used as fillings — starting from gold, porcelain to tooth-colored plastic and composite resin fillings.
Composite resins are commonly proper for little to moderate-sized restorations — which incorporate the most widely recognized kinds of fillings. They are durable, break safe, and ready to withstand the biting pressure. Depending upon the amount of tooth needs treatment, the method can be completed only in one visit.
If you have more questions about fillings or composite resin, contact our dental office, and we’ll be delighted to assist you.
The procedure
The filling procedure would involve the following steps:
- The dentists would initially use local anesthesia to numb the concerned area
- Then using different instruments, they would remove the decayed area
- Once all the decay has been removed, the dentist would prepare the area for filling
There might be several other steps involved in the process depending on your oral condition.
During your regular dental check-up, your dentist would be able to decide if you need a filling or not. They would do some close examinations followed by dental X-ray if required. The need for fillings and the material would depend on the extent of decay in your teeth.
