Sealants children and adults
Dental sealants are one of the most valuable tools that would help you to fight against tooth decay. They act as a barrier as they are made up of plastic materials and are placed over the molars and premolars where decays mostly occur. Even after brushing a lot, food particles can enter the grooves and ridges of the teeth and can cause decay. This can potentially be prevented using a sealant.
What is a sealant?
A sealant is a thin protective coating over the molars, which reduces its chance of decays. They prevent the bacterias from settling down between the teeth and thus can effectively be used over teeth that show signs of early decay. This would prevent the teeth from any further decays.
Applying the sealant
There are 4 steps that dentists follow for applying sealants on your teeth:
- At first, they would clean the surface of your teeth and then would dry it.
- Next, an acidic gel would be applied which would make the surface of the teeth rough. This would ensure that the sealant adheres to the teeth under all circumstances.
- This would be followed by rinsing the gel and application of a dry toothpaste before the sealant is applied.
- Finally, post the rinse, the teeth surface would be dried and the sealant would be applied.
Mostly used for children, dental sealants are great for adults as well. Anyone is susceptible to dental decay, and the sealant ensures that the bacteria have no room to grow. They protect the most difficult corners of the mouth where dental decays mostly occur. This can occur due to improper brushing, not flossing and/or not maintaining the mandatory dental hygiene routine. It is crucial to clean your teeth and mouth after having food, especially when it is sweet or sticky.
Thus paying an upfront cost to save your teeth from further problems can be a great idea. Added to this, regular brushing, flossing, and consuming healthy food and beverages would keep your oral health in great shape. The parents should take good care of their children’s oral conditions and ensure that they follow all the hygiene habits correctly. After that, sealants can be an excellent preventive measure that can prevent your teeth and your child’s teeth from diseases and decays.
